Yes, a war that lasted 400 years. It was without a doubt the longest war in history, and definitely one of the biggest. This war destroyed lands and reshaped parts of the continent, changing countries, and affecting the world's entire way of life. The boundaries of Ten no Kuni slowly began to fall as the borders of other countries grew. The world, drifting from peace time to a newly born ninja world, took the entire span of this war to complete, and by the time it ended, a new ninja world had been created. Ten no Kuni still remained a country, still having an influence on some of the world market, but the Five Great Shinobi Nations now ruled the world once again.

Kaijingakure (Lit. Village Hidden in the Ashes) is the capital of the Land of Volcanos. As one of the Five Great New Shinobi villages, its leader is known as the Kazankage. The village is most notable for their use of fire styled techniques and their loyalty to their Kage. The village is located a few miles away from a few volcanos which have their ashes blown over the village for about 2/3rds of the year.
Shipugakure (Lit. Village Hidden in the Hurricanes) is the capital of the Land of Storms. As one of the Five Great New Shinobi villages, its leader is known as the Arashikage. The village is most notable for their use of lightning styled techniques and sword use. The village is located in a crater; A meteorlogical phenomena has the village surrounded by an unmoving hurricane for half of the year that covers miles of land and water.
Soragakure (Lit. Village Hidden in the Sky) is the capital of the Land of Tornados. As one of the Five Great New Shinobi villages, its leader is known as the Gufukage. The village is most notable for their use of wind styled techniques and puppet techniques. The village is located on a flying foretress which travels above the clouds of never ending tornados. This foretress is a design of enhanced technological advancements, showing off the village's genius.
Mizumigakure (Lit. Village Hidden in the Lakes) is the capital of the Land of Tsunamis. As one of the Five Great New Shinobi villages, its leader is known as the Namikage. The village is most notable for their use of water styled techniques and spiritual awareness. The village is located on top of and below a gigantic lake. With various engineering techniques, they built a system of underwater housing complexes attached to each other and attached to the bottom of various land masses above. Cement housing of more rounder shapes are built above the lake. Some small buildings above water have pipelines that leads to the village below water. Richer villagers live in the underwater housing while middle class and poorer villagers live above the lake.
Iwayagakure (Lit. Village Hidden in the Caverns) is the capital of the Land of Earthquakes. As one of the Five Great New Shinobi villages, its leader is known as the Jishinkage. The village is most notable for their use of earth styled techniques and stubborn attitude. The village is located within the earth's crust near gigantic fault lines. There are large caverns dug out by ninja which allowed them to make homes out of the natural earthy environment, hiding them from the world above.
There are lands outside those of the hidden villages. Non-shinobi villages of many shapes and form, as well as various landscapes, both beautiful and treacherous.
Kamigakure (Lit. Village Hidden within God) is the capital of the Land of Heavens. It once was the largest country in the land, but after the legendary war, its border shrunk. It is however still a fairly powerful village, and stands as the self declared last remaining utopia.
Ranpugakure Ranpugakure [Lit. Village hidden in the Lamps] is the capital of Land of Darkness. It was a village hidden from the outside world for centuries. Little is known about it.
