Position: Gufukage
Clan/Bloodline: Yamamoto/None

STATUS
Married :: Straight
Physical Appearance: Ryu’s hair is scarlet red and very long. It is tied together with a thin string behind his neck. The hair that falls to the front always covers his forehead and ears, so they are seldom visible. He has pointy chin and sharp nose. Due to his bright, large and innocent brown eyes, most people find his expressions cute and charming. His body is well toned and thanks to his hard work at Kenjutsu and Taijutsu, his muscles are proportionate. He also managed to get the six-pack abs in his late teens.
Clothing: Ryu mostly wears Red/Blue/Pink Shinsengumi top and pure white bottom. On formal occasions and meetings, he wears a pure white Haori on top that complements his Shinsengumi bottom and the Gufukage hat. His sleeves are full and cover his arms completely until the fingers. This is mostly because he doesn’t want his opponents to predict his Sword’s path with his wrist’s movement. He generally wears the traditional Geta, although he is more comfortable when bare footed.
Distinguishing Marks: The X-Mark in his cheek is not something people would miss. It is a scar that could easily be healed with the help of Medical Shinobi, but Ryu is sentimental and wouldn’t undergo the treatment.

Likes:
- Food: You could say that he is addicted to tasting different kinds of food from all over the world. From Soups to Desserts, he loves them all. Disturbing him while he is enjoying his food is not a very good idea.
- Soragakure: The Village Hidden in the sky is his home and he would happily do anything for its good. Since the day he could spell 'Soragakure' it has been the only thing he cared about.
- Katana: Ryu has this weird habit of collecting and mastering a variety of Katana that has been forged. From the everyday, cheap practice Katana to the most intricate, rare and expensive ones, he has them all and what's more? He can use them all.
- Hot Springs: He wouldn't care if his house had no ceiling, but it should definitely have a Hot Spring in it's backyard. Somehow, he doesn't feel very comfortable if he doesn't dip into a Hot Spring at least once a day.
- Kids: Ryu loves playing with the kids in the park. Since he had no one around to play with in his adolescence, he tries to make sure that no child in his village ever feels lonely or depressed.
Dislikes:
- Selfishness: Ryu hates to be around people who are self-centered and doesn't care about the consequences or other's feelings.
- Paperwork: This is one thing he never expected to hate so much after being appointed as the Kage. He generally bribes his assistant with Ramen to do the paperwork for him.
- Superiority Complex: People who think they are better than everyone else is a turn-off for Ryu. Personally, he thinks they are just convincing themselves out of their inferior skills.
- Solitude: He has been aloof enough in his life that he can't take it anymore. He always wants good comrades around him. But he doesn't try to gather attention to achieve that.
- Elders: Although he respects the Village Elders very much, he feels that they are all still stuck in the old chaotic world. He presumes that anyone who is older than sixty comes up with Violence as the only solution. And hence he tries to make most of the decisions by himself or with other young members in the administration.
Personality:
- Non-Violent: Ryu believes in non-violence. His fighting skills are off charts and he could walk through a group of hundred thugs unscathed. Yet, he always resort to those extraordinary skills of his only if he has no other option. He believes every problem can be solved in a civilized way if both the sides are willing to hear each other out.
- Wise: Ryu covers up for his lack of experience with his wisdom. His ability to perceive issues from different angles and instantly come up with more than one possible solution never ceases to amaze the people around him.
- Calm: What is even more astounding is that along with wisdom, he has a very cool head. Life has taught him enough to breath normal in those stressful moments and think straight. The Village Elders call this a deadly combination that would probably make him the most efficient and powerful Gufukage ever.
- Down to Earth: Ryu is not someone who would keep his head high and look down on people. He is very easy to approach and one would lose track of time while talking to him. He is sensible and very practical when it comes to any problem. Although he hates advising people, he does so when asked for or if he feels it is of any use.
- Carefree: Until and unless it is something that will seriously affect the welfare of a good individual or the village, he literally doesn't care about anything at all. He would laugh through issues that would generally irritate or embarrass people.
- Sentimental: Although he generally takes everything easily, he is very sentimental when it comes to his past. He rarely shares his memories with anyone and would really get depressed when someone even grazes the topic.
- Compassionate: It totally gets him down when he realizes that someone is truly in pain and would go to any extremes to alleviate it. It is in such occasions that he never listens to anyone and is vulnerable to deception.
- Charming: Ryu has the power to attract people and keep them close. It is very natural to him that he doesn't realize that he has such a power and hence doesn't know to use it to deceive people.
History:
The Beginning...
Ryuzaki was born to Keisuke Yamamoto and Misaki Yamamoto on a Tuesday afternoon. His parents were Chuunin ranked Shinobi of Soragakure. They weren’t extraordinary. Before Ryu was born, his father, Keisuke was determined to join an ANBU Squad. But, even after several attempts, he couldn’t pass the Village ANBU Exam and soon he became the laughing stock. Eventually, he gave up and decided to stay a Chuunin all his life. His mother Misaki, who was on the right path to become an excellent Jounin, retired right after she got pregnant with him. As a family, they were happy though. Keisuke would go on simple C Ranked Mission requests inside the country for the living, while Misaki spent all her time with the infant Ryu.
When Ryu was six months old, Keisuke had gone on a normal C-Rank Mission and it turned out to be more than what it seemed. The Mission took a dangerous turn and someone had to be sent as the decoy and sacrificed for others to survive. The team leader hid this fact from Keisuke and sent him as the decoy, giving him a false promise that the others will follow shortly to back him up. The innocent Keisuke, who thought he had another chance to prove his worth accepted readily and fell into the trap. The Mission was a success, but with the loss of Keisuke. Although, no one considered this a big loss in the village, this was of course a heavy loss for the Yamamoto household.
Misaki didn’t know what to do. She knew she can’t take up her Shinobi uniform again, because Ryu was just six months old. Immaterial of what era it is, in the Shinobi community, no one would respect or have time for the average. Not a single person in the neighbourhood really bothered to help or at least comfort her. It was so frustrating that she decided to lock the house and leave the floating village.

Lonely Days
Misaki left Soragakure and lived in a small town, down on the Land of Tornadoes. The town was located at the safest place in the land where the Tornadoes are not very severe. This allowed Misaki to concentrate on her new found work and Ryu without exerting herself. Using her Shinobi skills, catching fishes from the river with the senbon needles was pretty easy and she put up a fish stall in the town. Although, it didn’t get her much, she managed to feed Ryu and herself well at least twice a day. Two years passed and Ryu can walk now. It didn’t make Misaki’s job any easier. He now runs around the house breaking things and she had to pin him down beside her in the stall.
The young boy’s life was way too boring for his age. He isn’t old enough to go out and play and his mom was too busy catching fishes and selling them. He had to sit at the home and doodle all day. One more year passed and Misaki decided it was time for him to attend a normal school. The town’s school was expensive and she couldn’t afford it. Having no other option, she decided to teach him the alphabets and numbers herself. And Ryu actually enjoyed studying since that was the only thing he could do other than doodle.
At the age of five, Misaki allowed him to go the park and play along with the other kids. The town kids seemed friendly enough in the start, but apparently they all hated him eventually. The kids started taking pity on him at first since he was not attending any school, but when they realized he could do Maths and spell most of the simple words better than them, they started bullying him. Unknowing of what had caused his friends to avoid and shun him suddenly, Ryu stopped going to the park and walked to the top of the small cliff every evening instead. The cliff had very few trees and was barren otherwise. No one in town really bothered to give it a second glance. It even looked a little creepy and so it wasn’t in any couple’s favourite dating spot.
All this worked for Ryu’s advantage and he could do whatever he wanted up in the cliff and his mom would think he was playing in the park. One fine day, Misaki decided to visit Soragakure and sell the house they had there. She thought that would probably be enough to pay for Ryu’s education for a while. She couldn’t leave Ryu back at the town, and so she took him along with him. Everything about Soragakure amazed him. The very fact that the town was floating up in the sky made him want to live there. He went ahead and requested his mom. Looking at the Shinobi Academy in the way he jumped up shouting, “Look Mom, there’s even a school here. I can go there!” Misaki gave him a death glare and the boy shut up. She had no intention of making him a Shinobi.

The First Katana!
Misaki was always very nice to Ryu. She never frowned or scowled at him even once. So, when she gave such a hostile stare at Ryu, it was all a mystery to him. As soon as she arranged for the selling of the house, she took Ryu and left the village quickly. She didn’t say a single word on the whole journey and the boy could understand nothing. When they finally reached home, she said, “One more month and we will have enough money to send you to school.” That made Ryu forget everything else. He always wanted to go to school like every other kid in town.
But life had different plans for him. One fine morning, he woke up to find his Mom missing. He ran around town searching for her but she was nowhere. Sitting in the center of his house, he wept all day and finally slept starving. Two whole days passed and Misaki never came back. Ryu, now didn’t even have the strength to cry. He ate the last piece of bread that was in the house and walked out of town. As he walked towards Soragakure’s transport point, he saw a twinkle on the far side of the land. When he was about half a kilometre away from the point he could see it all clearly. There were two Shinobi fighting. Ryu quickly hid under the bushes and peeped through the leaves. Though he couldn’t follow the Shinobi’s moves, in few minutes, he saw one of them walk away. He knew that the fight was over.
He didn’t know fear yet. And so, he quickly jumped out of the bush and ran towards the spot. Where he thought there might be a body, there were only a head band and a Katana. The head band had the Soragakure symbol with a strike over it. This one was a rogue ninja and someone had taken care of him. He doesn’t know it though. All that caught his attention was the Katana. He picked it up along with the sheath and headed for Soragakure.

Ninja Academy?
Ryu never planned to become a Shinobi. He thought if he reached that floating village somehow, he could join the academy there where he thought they would teach him Maths and Science. The poor boy still has no idea about what a Hidden Village is all about. Thinking it will be really easy to enter Soragakure, he walked to the guard and asked him to send him up to the floating village. The guard laughed hard and pushed him away. “Go back home!” he said. “I have no one back in my home.” Probably that hit the mark, because the guard’s smile faded rapidly. He looked down keenly into Ryu’s eyes and then sighed heavily.
“I don’t know if the Kage would allow this. If he says no, you are going back to the town,” the guard said while taking Ryu to the Kage. Reaching the Kage office, the guard knocked twice and entered. “Kage Sama! We got a kid here who wants to join the Academy. He says he got no one,” the guard said politely to the man who sat behind a large table and did paperwork. Ryu looked around the large room and was bewildered at the large number of scrolls present there. He then turned towards the Kage, when he stood up. “What’s your name, boy?” he commanded. “Ryuzaki Yamamoto!” The Kage’s eyes widened when he heard the name Yamamoto. He then squinted his eyes and looked at Ryu closely. He then stood back and smiled softly at Ryu. “Drop him at the Yamamoto house and show him the way to the Academy while you are at it,” he said to the guard.
“That was easy, wasn’t it?” the guard said as he walked Ryu to the nearby Ramen stand. He was famished and so he ate three bowls of Ramen. The guard looked happy though. “What’s your name?” Ryu finally asked the guard. “Kenta Hikaru!” he beamed back. “Thank you!” Ryu said with a big smile on his face. Kenta then showed the Academy and dropped Ryu at his house. “You are gonna live a new life from tomorrow. Good luck!” he said before vanishing. Although he wanted to take a tour around his house, he was very tired and hence fell asleep almost instantly.
Ryu was asked to attend the Academy from the next day itself and he was excited. He took the large doodle pad along with a pencil to the class. Everyone looked at him weirdly. The Sensei introduced him to everyone and made him sit on the second bench. The boy still had no idea what this Academy teaches. “So… What does he teach? Math? Science?” he whispered to his neighbour, who gave an awkward look. “Projectiles!” he snapped. Ryu’s eyes nearly popped out. He is not dumb to still not realize it. He was in a Ninja Academy.

Average Genin
Ryu was totally keeping up the family pride. His performance in every test is average. His teachers saw no big spark in him and didn’t even care to help him do better. He wasn’t failing, so they just let it be. Ryu was trying hard though. He studied every night and practiced the basic Jutsus and projectiles every evening. Also, he had to run few errands every weekend so that he could pay for his food and clothing. Three years went by very soon and he passed out as a Genin. Some even started calling him the ‘Average Genin’.
There was one thing he was above average in actually. But no one really knows it because he doesn’t show it. He had been practicing Kenjutsu everyday with that Katana he had taken from the ground. He never takes that Katana to the Academy because they are allowed to use only wooden ones right now. Somehow he isn’t all that excited when it is the wooden sword and although it is much lighter than the real one he isn’t as good with it. He had learnt a few Kenjutsu tricks by now. He was put in a three man Genin squad and he surprised his Sensei with his excellent Kenjutsu skills who didn’t expect much from him.
His team mates were very formal with him and he never felt like sharing anything with them. His sensei was an extraordinary Jounin and he had very less time for them, hence leaving Ryu in solitude again. He never complained though, in fact even if he wanted to complain, he had no one to. He just kept practicing his Kenjutsu and Ninjutsu and years went by very slowly, for him. He was now fluent with two different styles of Kenjutsu and the Katon element. With that he trained himself hard for the upcoming Chuunin Exam.
With no inborn talent in anything, Ryu had to train day and night with his Kenjutsu and Ninjutsu. He never gave up even though he knew that he wasn’t in par with any of the other Shinobi his age. The day before the Chuunin exam, he visited Kenta who had been recently promoted to Jounin rank. “I want to spar with you!” he said. The startled Kenta didn’t laugh at him, which gave a lot of confidence to him. “Are you sure? Tomorrow is your exam and I’m not one to hold back,” Kenta warned him. Ryu smiled broadly and in no time they were out in the ground sparring.
It was obviously one sided. Kenta was just toying around and Ryu couldn’t even get near him. He knew what it meant to be a Jounin. “If you could land one hit on me, then you can think about passing the exam tomorrow,” Kenta said in a serious tone. He was the only one who actually believed in Ryu, even if it is just a little. Ryu knew he had to prove him right. He pushed himself beyond his limits and still he couldn’t hit him. All his slashes were either dodged or deflected and before he could come back with another slash, he would get hit. It was frustrating.
The Spar went on for three whole hours and Ryu was panting hard, while Kenta just stood there without even breaking a sweat. Gritting his teeth, he dashed forward again with full confidence. He slashed at him and it was deflected. But this time, Ryu did not come back to strike. Instead, he span around shifting the Katana from his right hand to left and hit Kenta in the hip with its hilt. That was a heavy blow and Kenta hadn’t expected it at all. “That was good! I think you have a chance of passing,” he said before vanishing. And he was right, Ryu passed the exam. The combination of his different styles of Kenjutsu along with his Ninjutsu seemed to work like a charm on every opponent he met. From an average Genin, he had suddenly become the notable Chuunin.
Chuunin life was great for Ryu. He was shuffled through different squads to see how he performed in various situations and he impressed the higher officials. The name, Yamamoto gained popularity all over Soragakure and he was expected to become a great Jounin soon. Some ANBU squads were interested in him, but then they decided he wouldn’t fit in. “That guy doesn’t know to give up and his moves are way too flashy. He will be a better Shinobi under the Sun rather than the shadows,” the ANBU leader said. Years passed and now he was being considered for the Jounin Exam.
Since a year before Ryu was considered to take up the Jounin Exam, he had been working on his own style of Katana Wielding. He called it the Kage Hoshi. This was a style where he used both his arms but it wasn’t double handed. He shifts the Katana from one hand to another for faster and smoother strikes. He had almost mastered its basics and his slashes per second are way higher than the best Katana users in the village. Although he hadn’t created any devastating techniques yet, his skill in it was sufficient enough to take on at least three decent Chuunins head on at the same time. This rapid improvement was noticed by the higher ups and he was going to take the Jounin exam.
The Jounin Exams weren’t easy for him. It pushed him beyond his limits and he even failed many of the tests pathetically. He was very much sure that he wasn’t going to be promoted and decided to work even harder and pass the exam next time. But to his surprise, he was promoted. He was bewildered by the decision. “These exams are designed in a way that there is just no way to pass it. It is your skill and composure at such stressful moments that are assessed and I promote you to Jounin,” the Kage said. Ryu nearly cried. The stupid, average Genin was now the youngest Jounin in the village. He went straight to Kenta for the celebration.
Very soon, he was assigned a Genin Squad to lead and he loved the three young Shinobi. One of them even wanted to follow Ryu in his footsteps and learn Kage Hoshi from him although he was very skilled in Genjutsu. Ryu was happy, but he had to do what is right. He promised him to teach some Kenjutsu if he would pursue Genjutsu as his primary technique. Although the boy hesitated at first, he then realized the true intention and accepted it. In fact, later this kid had no time to spend for Kage Hoshi that Ryu never got to teach his style.
Ryu assisted them on many team missions and the three graduated into Chuunins much quickly than any of the others. He had taught them not only to fight but also to love the village and their comrades. He was very sure that those three would become great and reliable shinobi for Soragakure. Ryu then went on long journeys and missions, which led him to meet a variety of people and taste variety of food from all over the country. He was soon addicted to the habit of tasting different kinds of cuisines. Once he ate a bowl of Ramen in a secluded restaurant in Kamigakure and it was so delicious that he had never tasted anything that was even close. He wanted to meet the cook and it was Kumiko Watanabe. Not only did he fall in love with her ramen, but also her. Luckily for him, the feeling was mutual. He visited her every week for about an year and they finally decided to marry.
With the Kage’s permission, Ryu married Kumiko and she moved to Soragakure with him. Not even an ounce of Shinobi blood ran through her and it didn’t matter to Ryu. He loved her and her Ramen with all his heart. Many years passed and Ryu was known all over the world as the ‘Shadow Star’, which was a literal translation of his style ‘Kage Hoshi’. At the age of twenty seven, Kumiko gave birth to a girl, whom Ryu named Mizuki. The family lived happily and now, the Yamamoto name was so popular in Soragakure and feared in all other hidden villages. Ryu wished his mom was there to see this.
Eight years passed and the Gufukage decided to retire. He was too old and his health started to deteriorate. “A Kage shouldn’t be a hindrance to the village,” he said before taking off his hat. The whole village wondered who the next Kage will be. Ryu didn’t care much. He was having a happy meal with his family and was going to take a relaxing afternoon nap without a care in the world. “That old man knows the best and I’m sure he would choose the best,” he said to Kumiko who asked him if he wasn’t worried about it. Just then the doorbell rang and Ryu asked Kumiko to get it. “Honey! Get up. It’s Gufukage-sama,” she said shaking Ryu out of his sleep. Hearing that, he quickly wore his robe and came into the living room.
“I’d have come myself, if you had called for me,” he said as he sat opposite to the Kage. “Does that mean, I’m not supposed to come to your house?” the Kage asked with a sarcastic tone. Ryu didn’t know how to answer that, he just sighed. “Now I know why you were the Kage. You would rather talk people to death rather than beat them down,” Ryu said and Kumiko stomped on his leg hard. “Ouch!” “Anyways… I came here to ask you something. Would you be the next Gufukage?” the Kage asked. There was an absolute silence in the room. After few seconds, Ryu burst out into laughter. “Hahahahaha! And here I was thinking, you have no sense of humour,” he blurted. “I’m serious,” the Kage said, with an absolutely serious and deep tone. Ryu protested saying there are better candidates, but the Kage somehow convinced him into it. “Alright! If you think I’m up to it, then I accept,” he finally said. The next day, he was officially announced as the Gufukage and he sat in his office staring at a large pile of paper. “THAT OLD GEEZER HAD TO DO THIS TO ME,” he screamed at the top of his voice.

The Kage Hoshi
Gufukage?

Special Abilities: On top of his 'happy-go-lucky' attitude, there were reasons for his appointment as the Gufukage. What truly makes Ryu eligible for the position, apart from his love for the village and country, is that he has a very Large Chakra Pool and he knows how to control it. In addition to that, he is the founder of the Katana Wielding Style, Kage Hoshi.
